If you’re also considering using keratin or want to learn more about this type of protein, we recommend reading the rest of this blog. Who knows—this might just be the final push you need to givekeratin a try ;)
What exactly is keratin?
We keep hearing everywhere that keratin is the treatment of the moment. Apparently, just like with many other products, the hype originated in the U.S. about five years ago. What exactly is keratin? Keratin is a protein produced naturally by the body. Because it’s a substance produced naturally by the body, you can use it on any hair type. And it’s 100% safe! Keratin is the main building block of your hair. It’s found in your hair, skin, and nails, among other places. The substance provides strength and flexibility. Natural keratin can be soft (hair) or hard (animal hooves). Did you know that our hair is 90% keratin?
What exactly does keratin do?
Frequent use of hair dryers, flat irons, and other heat styling tools reduces the amount of keratin in our hair. Treatments such as bleaching, straightening, perms, and coloring also have a negative effect on the amount of keratin in our hair. Undergoing a keratin treatment restores your hair’s keratin levels. It repairs the damage caused by external factors. So it’s no wonder that keratin productsare so popular! Their properties are truly amazing.
For which hair type?
Keratin is suitable for all hair types. It’s a natural substance produced by the body, not a chemical. So it doesn’t cause any damage. Now, some people say that after a treatment, their hair has a strange texture. It’s possible that you won’t get the desired result if you use too much or too little keratin. This throws the protein balance in your hair off. That’s why we recommend visiting aprofessional hairstylistif you want to be sure of a great result.

Misconceptions About Keratin
Straight hair: The biggest misconception is that people think they’ll have straight hair right after a keratin treatment. Remember: keratin repairs and nourishes the hair! It’s not a straightener that makes the hair straight. So, for some people, the hair does become straight after a keratin treatment, while for others it doesn’t. Keratin does nothing more than repair damaged hair. After a successful treatment, however, your hair will be easier to style.
Do It Yourself: Of course, you can buy akeratin kitand try it at home! Experience shows that results are still better when the treatment is applied by a professional. If you’re unsure, you can alwayscontacta professional for advice, so you, too, can achieve the results you want!

- Preferably, wear your hair down (no hair ties)
