About Kevin Murphy
The man behind the brand, Kevin Murphy, returned to Australia after completing his training in London and eventually established himself as one of the country’s most sought-after stylists. In addition to running his own busy salon, he also contributed regularly to Australian Vogue and received the Australian Masters Award at the AHFAS in 2007 for his contribution to raising the profile of Australian hairdressing worldwide! He is also considered the founder of the iconic “Beach Hair” look. The idea behind it came about during a photo shoot when his hair gel was accidentally mixed with saltwater and eyeshadow. While Kevin Murphy thought his gel was ruined, the opposite turned out to be true. The gel gave the hair a cool texture. At the time, Kevin Murphy had frequently encountered products that didn’t deliver the desired results or even caused skin irritation. For these reasons, he launched his own brand in 2004, featuring products free of sulfates and parabens.

Kevin Murphy products contain rich and sustainable ingredients, such as vitamins, essential oils, and natural antioxidants. For example, Kevin Murphy uses fruit acids in its products that are derived from papaya, citrus, and sugarcane, which gently exfoliate the hair without drying out or stripping the scalp. All Kevin Murphy products are cruelty-free and are therefore not tested on animals. A large portion of the products is also vegan. Since 2011, they have been certified by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the largest animal rights organization.
