About Kevin Murphy
After completing his training in London, Kevin Murphy, the man behind the brand, returned to Australia and eventually established himself as one of the country's most sought-after stylists. Alongside running a busy salon of his own, he also regularly contributed to Australian Vogue and, in 2007, received the Australian Masters Award at the AHFAS for his contribution to the international profile of Australian hairdressing! He is also considered the creator of the iconic ‘Beach Hair’ look. The idea came about during a shoot when his hair gel was accidentally mixed with salt water and eyeshadow. While Kevin Murphy thought his gel was ruined, the opposite turned out to be true. The gel gave the hair a great texture. At the time, Kevin Murphy often came across products that failed to deliver the desired results or even caused skin irritation. For these reasons, he started his own brand in 2004, with products free from sulfates and parabens.
