Curly Girl Method

Women with naturally curly hair know that curly hair needs unique care. Curly hair can even vary from day to day! When the weather is very dry, it can become much straighter, or if you decide to sleep with wet hair one night, it may fall perfectly into place for one person while looking as if the curls have exploded for another. Fortunately, caring for curls gets a little easier with the Curly Hair Method! The Curly Hair Method is based on a well-known book: Curly Girl: The Handbook. The Curly Girl Method, also known as the CG Method, is a real hit. The author, Lorraine Massey, owns the Devachan salons and product line. Drawing on years of experience, she wrote a book for all types of curls, including how to care for African American or wavy hair. She also divided her method into a number of steps: washing, conditioning, and styling.

Step 1: Final Wash

The first step of the Curly Hair Method is the so-called Final Wash. This step is needed to remove all the product residue and silicone buildup. For this, you need a shampoo that is silicone-free and contains strong sulfates . The sulfates in the Final Wash shampoo remove all harmful residue from previous (unsuitable) products that has built up over time on your hair and scalp. This lets you make a completely fresh start with the right hair products for your curly hair! The Final Wash step is for one-time use, but if you regularly swim in the ocean or a pool, you can repeat it once a month.

Step 2: Curly Girl Method Shampoo

After the first step of the Curly Hair Method, you start washing your curls with shampoo. But according to the Curly Girl Method, you need a special CG shampoo. And CG shampoo is not ordinary shampoo. “Regular shampoo” generally contains sulfates, and according to Lorraine Massey, these sulfates are too harsh for curly hair. Sulfates are known to dry out the scalp by removing its natural oils. And as most women with curls know, curly hair is naturally drier than other hair types! Would you rather use dry shampoo instead of regular shampoo? Or a combination of the two? We’ve selected a dry shampoo for you that leaves no residue and absorbs excess sebum.

The products we’ve selected for the Curly Girl Method are therefore completely sulfate-free! We have CG shampoos from various brands, including BioSilk, Waterclouds, and Kérastase.

Step 3: Curly Girl Method Conditioner

After washing your hair with CG shampoo, use a conditioner to hydrate it. The first few times you use the conditioner, you’ll probably need more because your hair is damaged or because you’re just starting the Curly Hair Method. Once your hair is better hydrated, you can use less. So find the right amount of CG conditioner for your hair. The Curly Hair Method recommends leaving some of the conditioner in your hair. Curly hair needs the extra hydration and won’t become greasy quickly. Your hair will absorb what it needs, and you can squeeze out any excess as it dries. This hair care method won’t suit everyone, so see if it works for you! You can also use a leave-in conditioner to make sure your hair gets enough nourishment.

All CG conditioners are silicone-free, because silicone is normally used to remove silicones from the hair. Since you’re now using a CG shampoo without sulfates, that’s no longer necessary. We have various conditioners from Bumble and bumble, BioSilk, and Waterclouds. We also have shampoos and conditioners from the same brands, so you can use products that work well together. We’ve also taken color-treated hair into account. For example, we have a Waterclouds shampoo and conditioner that neutralize yellow tones in the hair.

Step 4: Curly Girl Method Treatment

When writing the Curly Girl Method, Lorraine Massey naturally took into account the dry texture of curly hair. That’s why we offer Curly Girl Method treatments. These treatments are specially designed for women with curly hair who struggle with dry or extremely dry hair. A hair serum or hair mask can give your dry curls that extra nourishment they need to help damaged hair recover.

Step 5: Curly Girl Method Styling

The final step in our Curly Hair Method consists of a number of optional steps. You decide which styling products you want to use. Curly Girl Method styling products include CG Method gel, oil, spray, serum, lotion, curl cream, and curl mousse.

CG Method curl cream helps prevent your hair from becoming frizzy or flyaway. Curl cream helps you keep your hair under control. Many CG Method curl creams have a protective effect and help your curls bounce back. Another popular way to style your hair is with curl mousse. Many women with curls prefer mousse because the different hold strengths mean there’s always a good option for your hair. Curl mousse also gives you full, beautiful curls. Another option is CG Method gel. Gel is great for curly hair because it not only prevents frizz, but also gives your hair a beautiful shine and better definition!
