The brand was founded by the passionate Donnie Hawley. In 1999, it seemed as though barbershops were on their last legs. Despite this, Donnie Hawley opened a barbershop called Layrite in Harleywood, Orange County. He was still dedicated to perfecting his clients’ haircuts. He soon realized that his techniques were being hindered by the traditional petroleum-based products he and his clients were using. These products were difficult to rinse out. To avoid limiting hairstyles while still maintaining high standards as a barber, Donnie set out to find an alternative solution. He experimented by mixing Vaseline, Mason Pomade, and Old Spice aftershave and began developing his own product. The end result was a water-soluble pomade. Over the years, this Original Pomade became known as the water-based pomade of the USA.

Customers noted that the pomade was the only product that really gave their hair great volume, which led to the launch of the Men’s Grooming Products brand. The products are designed for hairstylists and consumers who are looking for quality and authenticity.

Layrite products

The brand offers two hair pomades. These pomades have a delightful, mild vanilla scent and provide excellent hold throughout the day. There’s the Deluxe Original Pomade, which is suitable for short, fine, or normal hair, and the Deluxe Super Hold Pomade, which is suitable for extremely curly or thick hair. Depending on the hair’s moisture level during application, these pomades give the hair a medium to high shine. All pomades are water-soluble and are therefore easy to wash out in the shower.

In addition to their popular pomades, they also offer other products for men. These include a clay, cream, hairspray, oil, and aftershave. The clay provides a strong hold and gives the hair a matte, flawless finish. The cream is water-based, offers a medium hold, and adds a nice shine. It doesn’t harden, so you can still restyle your hair throughout the day. The hairspray is a thickening spray that adds volume. The beard oil is a thick oil that tames beard hair and keeps the skin itch-free and free of beard dandruff. The aftershave has a distinctive Bay Rum scent and provides nourishing, protective, and refreshing benefits.
