The Wahl Clipper Corporation began with Leo J. Wahl, who studied mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois. He experimented with an electromagnetic motor and, after inventing an electric massage device, joined forces with his uncle, who began manufacturing it. Leo took over the business after his uncle had to enlist and began experimenting with hair clippers. In 1919, he applied for a patent for his newly developed electromagnetic clipper and began producing it at the factory. The clipper was a huge success, and by 1920 they had made thousands of clippers and sold them to barbers across America! After Leo J. Wahl passed away, he had founded a hugely successful company and had no fewer than 100 patents to his name. Today, Wahl Clipper Corporation is the market leader in clipper manufacturing.
