How does the Dyson Airwrap work? Here’s a step-by-step guide.

The Dyson Airwrap is certainly not a standard (heat) tool, so it may take some getting used to the first few times you use it. It might be a little frustrating at first because you really have to get the hang of it. But... no worries! We’ll help you with a step-by-step guide. It’s also just a matter of practicing, practicing, practicing!

Step 1: Dry your hair

Let your hair air-dry or use the oval attachment. This attachment dries your hair like a regular hair dryer. Dry your hair before styling it until it’s about 80% dry.

Step 2: What look are you going for?

Time to decide what look you want to go for. Curls, straight hair, or volume—it can do it all. For example, if your hair is naturally frizzy and you want beautiful, voluminous curls, first use the smooth + control brush to smooth your hair, then curl it with the curling attachments.

Step 3: Style your hair

For wavy or curly hair, attach the right-sized attachment, take a section of hair, and let the airflow draw your hair in and wrap it around the barrel. Use a high temperature and airflow setting.

Step 4: How do you create curls with the Airwrap?

Let the Airwrap dry each section for 5-10 seconds, then press the cool button to let the curl cool before releasing it, so the curl sets.

Step 5: Perfect curls

Then release the curl and pull it down to create beautiful, loose curls.

Step 6: Almost done!

Repeat this throughout your hair until it’s dry.

Step 7: Set your hair with hairspray

If you like, set your hair with hairspray to help your style last as long as possible, or choose extra care with a serum or oil. Whatever you prefer, of course.

What’s different about the updated Dyson Airwrap?

The tool itself has stayed the same; only the attachments have changed significantly. It now includes a smoothing hair dryer that uses the Coanda effect. What does this mean? With this attachment, you can both dry and smooth your hair by concealing flyaways. The Coanda effect draws short hairs to the surface of the attachment, where they are hidden beneath longer hairs, leaving you with a smooth finish. In the Airwrap curling attachments and brushes, the airflow is bent, drawing the hair toward the curling attachment or brush and wrapping it around it, so you can style with air without extreme heat. In addition, the curling attachments work both clockwise and counterclockwise. So you no longer have to switch attachments to change the direction of the airflow.

The Airwrap also helps you tame flyaways. The Fly away attachment dries and smooths your hair while concealing flyaways.
