This device blow-dries, curls, waves, and straightens—all without extreme heat—to create salon-worthy looks (even if you don’t have any real hair-styling skills). It’s so versatile that it’s definitely the best hair tool ever! Since the Dyson doesn’t use extreme heat but still styles your hair effectively, it doesn’t damage your hair, and you don’t have to worry about ending up with a dry, brittle hairstyle. 

How does the Dyson Airwrap work? Here's a step-by-step explanation.

The Dyson Airwrap is definitely not your typical (heat) styling tool, so it might take a little getting used to the first few times you use it. This can be a bit frustrating at first because it really takes some practice to get the hang of it. But… no worries! We’re here to help with a step-by-step guide. Plus, it’s all about practice, practice, practice!

Step 1: Drying Your Hair

Let your hair air dry, or use the oval attachment. This attachment dries your hair just like a regular hair dryer. Before styling your hair, dry it until it’s about 80% dry.

Step 2: What look are you going for?

Time to decide which look you want to go for. Curls, straight hair, or volume—anything is possible. For example, if you naturally have frizzy hair and want beautiful, voluminous curls, start by smoothing your hair with the Smooth + Control brush, then curl it using the curling attachments.

Step 3: Style your hair

For wavy and curly hair, attach the appropriate-sized attachment, take a section of your hair, and let the device’s airflow grab your hair and wrap it around the barrel. Use a high temperature and airflow setting.

Step 4: How do you create curls with the Airwrap?

Let the Airwrap dry in each setting for 5–10 seconds, then press the cool button to let the curl cool down before releasing it, so that the curl sets.

Step 5: Perfect Curls

Next, release the curl and pull it downward to create beautiful, loose curls.

Step 6: Almost done!

Do this to all of your hair until it's dry.

Step 7: Set your hair with hairspray

If you'd like, use hairspray to keep your hair in place for as long as possible, or opt for extra care with a serum or oil. It's really up to you, of course.

What's different about the updated Dyson Airwrap?

The basic design of the tool has remained the same; only the attachments have changed significantly. For example, there’s now a smoothing hair dryer that uses the Coanda effect. What does this mean? With this attachment, you can both dry and smooth your hair by tucking away flyaways. The Coanda effect draws short strands toward the surface of the attachment, causing flyaways to disappear beneath longer strands and giving you a smooth finish. In the Airwrap curling attachments and brushes, the airflow is directed in a curved path, drawing the hair toward the curling attachment or brush and wrapping it around it, so you can style with air without extreme heat. In addition, the attachments for creating curls work both counterclockwise and clockwise. So you no longer need to switch attachments to change the airflow.

The Airwrap also helps control flyaways. With the Flyaway attachment, you can dry and smooth your hair and tame flyaways.
