How to remove hair dye
Sometimes you have to deal with regrowth or faded hair color, and then it can be tempting to dye your hair yourself. Unfortunately, dyeing your hair at home doesn’t always turn out as expected: you only wanted to go a shade darker, but it ended up several shades darker. Or perhaps an unwanted tint appeared after coloring your hair. In short: your hair dye job went wrong. Don’t panic! There are several ways to remove hair dye from your hair. We’ve listed all our tips for you!
Anti-dandruff shampoo
When it comes to colored hair, an anti-dandruff shampoo is not normally among our recommendations. That’s because anti-dandruff shampoo can cause hair color to fade. In this case, we actually want to remove the color from the hair, so anti-dandruff shampoo can be very useful!
Anti-dandruff shampoo combined with baking soda can help remove semi-permanent hair color.
What should you do?
Mix 2 tablespoons of anti-dandruff shampoo with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. The main thing is to get the proportions right. Depending on the length of your hair, you can use more or less.
Apply the mixture to wet hair and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes.
Rinse your hair and wash it with regular shampoo.
After washing your hair with this mixture, it may feel dry. We therefore recommend washing your hair thoroughly. For example, try the amika the kure bond repair shampoo & conditioner. Olive or coconut oil
You read that right: the olive oil in your kitchen cupboard can help you remove semi-permanent color. Coconut oil can also help remove unwanted color.
What should you do?
When heated, olive or coconut oil helps remove semi-permanent color while also hydrating your hair. So first, heat the olive or coconut oil in a double boiler.
Wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo.
Apply the oil to towel-dried or damp hair. Distribute the oil from the roots to the ends.
Leave the oil on for about an hour.
Rinse your hair with warm water and condition as desired.
Vinegar
Vinegar rinses are often recommended by hairstylists. This is because vinegar helps reduce skin problems and odors, and also leaves hair soft and shiny. Vinegar combined with olive oil is also very effective at removing semi-permanent color.
What should you do?
- Mix 2 cups of vinegar with 2 cups of olive oil
- Wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner
- Apply the mixture to your hair and leave it on for about 5 minutes
- Rinse your hair with warm water
Colour Undo Colour Remover
