Flat hair from wearing a hat or helmet

Yeah, we’ve all seen it come and go, but since 2023, helmets have been mandatory on all scooters. Not exactly great for your hairstyle, if you ask me. So here are a few tips to make sure your hair stays in place, even with a hat or helmet.

Tip 1: Part your hair the other way

Do you always part your hair on the right? If so, part it to the other side before putting on your hat. When it’s time to take off your hat, return to your normal part, and gently massage your roots to restore volume. Apply a little volumizing powder or dry shampoo beforehand to restore your volume as soon as you take off the hat.

Tip 2: Start your day with hairspray

Does your hair get flat after wearing a hat or helmet? Start by applying a littlehairspray. Lift small sections of your hair and spray a small amount of hairspray onto the roots. This will prevent your hair from getting static and help you easily add more volume.

Tip 3: Don't brush or comb it!

Many people instinctively brush their hair after taking off a hat or helmet. It’s best to avoid doing this, though, because it will only make your hair flatter. Just run your fingers through your hair a little to work out any tangles, and thenapplyatexturizing spray to restore volume.

Tip 4: Being prepared before you head out is half the battle

If you’re going to wear a helmet or a hat today, always bring the following essentials with you. Think of things like dry shampoo or volumizing powder. After taking off your hat or helmet, tilt your head forward, spray the dry shampoo orvolumizing powderontoyour roots, and gently massage it into your hair. Let it sit for a moment, then distribute it throughout your hair. By always having these products on hand when wearing a hat, beanie, or helmet, your hair will stay in place.

Tip 5: Don't wear a hat, helmet, or beanie over wet hair

It’s a busy morning—you’ve just gotten out of the shower, quickly put on your hat, and head out the door. On some mornings, this can be very tempting, but it’s not really good for your hair for the rest of the day. Your hair will dry out extra flat, and it’s almost impossible to get any volume back in it. Wait until your hair is completely dry, or blow-dry it. That way, your hair can easily recover from being flattened by the hat.
