Our hair is our crown, which we wear every day. And it has to look perfect! Together with our customers, hairstylists, and through our own testing, we’ve figured out which is the best hair straightener and how to use it best!
Heat isn’t good for your hair. That’s important to remember before you start styling. We’d like to give you some tips to minimize damage: If you have thin, sparse, damaged, or colored hair, 180 degrees is hot enough to style your hair. For long, thick, or very curly hair, you can raise the temperature to around 230 degrees. Never forget to apply heat protectant beforehand. And 5 seconds per strand with a heat tool is more than enough. And as obvious as it may seem, running your straightener over the same section three times is pointless. It’s not that it damages your hair, but if you glide the straightener smoothly and firmly over the section, styling it just once is usually enough. A brush with natural bristles also helps achieve perfectly straight hair. First, run the brush over the section once, then straighten it with your straightener. You’ll find that straightening it just once is often enough.
The Best Hair Straightener
What should you look for when buying a hair straightener? We always recommend choosing a high-quality straightener with ceramic plates. Ceramic plates ensure a consistent heat flow. This minimizes damage to your hair. This is especially important for fine, damaged, and colored hair.
The Best Brand of Hair Straighteners
We’ve researched which brand and which hair straightener we and our customers like best. The factors we considered are:
“I bought these straightening tongs for my daughter, who has really thick, curly hair. (She’s mixed-race.) With these tongs, her hair is straight in no time and stays that way for a few days. At most, I just have to touch up the ends after two days.” “This straightener is definitely worth the money!! I have curly, very frizzy hair, and thanks to this straightener, it takes me no more than 10 minutes to straighten my hair. The result is super-straight hair with a beautiful shine, and it lasts a really long time, too! It’s really great!!” “Great design, heats up quickly, and delivers great results.”
How often to style
We recommend avoiding daily use of the flat iron. We recommend straightening your hair every 2 to 3 days. If you notice any signs of damage, we advise using the straightener a little less frequently. But also make sure to use a good heat protectant. This also has a major impact on how your hair reacts to the straightener.
The CHI G3 Blush Ceramic & Titanium Hair Straightener by John Beerens
The really cool thing about this straightener is that the plates aren’t just ceramic—they’re also infused with titanium. The combination of these materials ensures that your hair is protected from the heat. In addition, this combination of materials leaves your hair smooth and shiny. It also helps retain moisture in your hair, so it doesn’t dry out. The high-quality plates are also very durable. The Ceramic & Titanium plates heat up quickly and evenly. This ensures even better results and means you can enjoy these amazing results for even longer. The CHI G3 Blush Ceramic and Titanium Digital Flat Iron tames even the most unruly, thick, and coarse hair! Now do you see why this is our favorite?
How to Create Curls with a Flat Iron
With a flat iron, you can not only straighten your hair but also curl it. Below are the steps you need to follow to create the cutest curls. We’ve also written a blog post about this in the past. We personally think the CHI G3 Blush Ceramic and Titanium Digital Flat Iron is the best for curling strands of hair. Follow our 7 steps for perfect results:
1. Place a section of hair between the plates of your straightener.
2. Close the straightener and turn it backward (away from your face).
3. Rotate the straightener until it is horizontal.
4. Now let the piece slowly slide down through the tongs.
5. For a slightly edgier look, don't curl the ends.
6. The slower your hair glides through the straightener, the tighter your curl will be!
7. For a messy look, twist a strand or two against the direction every now and then. Extra tip: for the best effect, be sure to twist all the strands closest to your face away from your face.
Are you a regular user of a flat iron? If so, it’s important to take good care of your hair. The heat from the flat iron dries out your hair a bit more, so your locks need a little extra hydration. Waterclouds’ Repair line is one of the best lines we offer for caring for and repairing hair. SachaJuan’s Hair Repair line is also popular among our customers. These hair care products contain ingredients that repair damaged hair and provide optimal hydration for your locks.
Heat Protection for Use with a Flat Iron
A flat iron can get very hot. We can’t stress enough how important it is to protect your hair with a heat protectant before it comes into contact with the flat iron. A good heat protectant not only protects your hair but also nourishes it.Plus, it prevents hair breakage, which can lead to split ends. Which heat protectant will you choose? Hairstyles and Hair Trends
To inspire you to try out different hairstyles and hair trends using a flat iron, we've selected a few.
Tip 1. Styling Hairstyles
Iron Straight
A flat iron is essential for this beautiful hairstyle. Part your hair to make it easier on yourself. Take a flat, not-too-thick section of hair. Brush your hair downward with a round brush while simultaneously gliding the flat iron over your hair. This prevents frizz because all the strands are styled in the same direction.
Tip 2. Hairstyles for Long Hair
Straight high ponytail
With long hair, you can create all kinds of hairstyles. We’re highlighting the straight high ponytail. To make this gorgeous high ponytail as sleek as possible, it’s best to straighten your hair with a flat iron. Next, tilt your head upside down and brush your hair downward with a round brush while simultaneously gliding the flat iron over your hair. This prevents frizz because all the strands are styled in the same direction.
Tip 3. Medium-length hairstyles
Iron Straight with a twist
For medium-length hairstyles, we’ve chosen the “iron straight with a twist” look. For this style, twist a section of your hair backward as you run it through the straightening iron. Keep twisting the iron slowly as you work your way down. This will straighten your hair all the way to the ends.
A flat iron is perfect for creating beautiful waves or curls in straight hair. In the video below, we'll show you how to easily create curls with a flat iron without damaging your hair.
