Olaplex. You’ve probably heard of it, seen it around, or perhaps your bathroom cabinet is already full of it. But what exactly is Olaplex? And what can Olaplex do for your hair type? In this blog, you’ll find out everything you need to know about this popular brand.
What is Olaplex and how does it work?
Styling, blow-drying and coloring hair damages it, also breaking the disulfide bonds in the hair. These disulfide bonds determine the strength of the hair, so when they are broken, the hair becomes weaker and thinner.
Two expert chemists, Dr. Eric Pressly and Dr. Craig Hawker, discovered a chemical compound made up of just one ingredient and free of oil and silicone. This compound repairs the disulfide bonds, strengthening and restoring the hair. The result? Shiny, strong and healthy hair that is back in top condition! And as if that weren’t convincing enough, Olaplex also helps your color last longer. Olaplex is free of silicones, parabens, sulfates and gluten, and is also 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
What do Olaplex products do and how do you use them?
The entire Olaplex range consists of 8 products that together form a complete treatment. Steps 1 and 2 are carried out in the salon. These treatments are also available at the John Beerens Hair Studio!
The other Olaplex products make up an at-home treatment that helps you easily restore damaged locks.
Olaplex No. 0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment
Olaplex No. 0 is a primer that prepares the hair for the next products in your routine, helping them absorb better for optimal results and maximum repair. This product is used in combination with Olaplex No.3 as the first step of the treatment, helping to strengthen and repair broken disulfide bonds. Research has also shown that hair is 68% more repaired and 3x stronger when treated with a combination of Olaplex No.0 and Olaplex No.3.
How to use
Apply Olaplex No.0 to dry hair, focusing on the lengths and ends. Please note: do not apply this product to the scalp!
Leave it on for 10 minutes, then apply Olaplex No.3 over it. Leave the treatment on for another 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Olaplex No.1 & Olaplex No.2
These Olaplex products are salon treatments that intensively improve and repair the hair. These treatments are also available at the John Beerens Hair Studio.
Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector Treatment
As explained above, Olaplex No.3 works best in combination with Olaplex No.0 for optimal results. Olaplex No.3 keeps the hair soft and shiny, even between salon treatments. It also helps prevent split ends, leaving the hair feeling silky soft after use.
How to use
Apply the Hair Perfector to towel-dried hair and leave it on for at least 10 minutes. Are your locks damaged by coloring or using heat tools? Leave the product on for 20 minutes. Then rinse the hair thoroughly. Olaplex No.3 can be used more than once a week.
Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
This sulfate-free shampoo cleanses, repairs and hydrates damaged and chemically treated hair, while improving its internal structure and manageability. It also gives the hair a beautiful shine and helps prevent breakage. After use, the hair is deeply nourished, repaired from within and hydrated.
How to use
First, treat the hair with Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector. Then distribute Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo evenly through the hair and massage it in well. Rinse out the shampoo and continue the treatment with Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner.
Olaplex No.4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo
Especially for blonde, highlighted or gray hair, Olaplex introduces its new product: Olaplex No.4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo. A purple shampoo that makes hair three times brighter. What’s more, this shampoo contains Olaplex’s patented Bond Building technology, which repairs, improves and hydrates damaged hair. After use, the hair has a beautiful cool tone and a radiant shine!
How to use
Apply Olaplex No.4P to damp hair and leave the shampoo on for 1 to 3 minutes. Then rinse it out thoroughly. For optimal results, we recommend following this step with Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner or Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask for extra care and hydration.

Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
This Olaplex conditioner hydrates and detangles while repairing structural damage to chemically treated hair. It also gives the hair an intensely shiny, healthy look without frizz. After use, the hair feels soft and looks beautifully shiny.
How to use
To enhance the results of the previous steps, apply this conditioner after using Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector and Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo. Remove excess water from the hair and distribute Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner evenly through the lengths and ends. Leave the conditioner on for 2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Olaplex No.6 Bond Smoother Styling Crème
This leave-in styling cream from Olaplex is highly concentrated and has a smoothing effect. This hair cream strengthens and hydrates the hair, making it smooth and manageable. It also helps the hair dry faster and fights frizz. After use, the hair has a natural shine and looks noticeably smoother, softer and more manageable.
How to use
Apply a small amount of styling cream to towel-dried or dry hair, focusing on the lengths and ends. Comb through the hair to distribute the product evenly, then style as desired.
